Joe Gibb producing next Powder single
30 January 2001
Mighty Atom have enlisted the help of top producer/engineer Joe Gibb for the next Powder CD single. Joe's credits include Catatonia, Tom Jones, Brand New Heavies, Leftfield, Texas and many, many more. Joe is working on two tracks for the band, Empty Bones and Wish. Empty bones will be the next single release from the band and should be released in early March. Wish will feature on the album, and may be released on an EP later in the year.
For Wish, Joe set the band up in the big hall and let them play live to a click track. The track was heavilly rearranged to bring it down from 6 minutes to just under 4. Room mikes were used to record the huge ambient sound we can acheive in the hall. The live recording was followed by a number of guitar overdubs by Andy and Eb and finally Steve's vocal. It was very unfortunate that Steve had a heavy cold, so his vocal performance was below his best. We'll be re-recording the vocal when he recovers.
For Empty Bones, Joe worked with the basic track already recorded by Roger. To this he added a few guitar overdubs and then headed into an extreme mixing session that finally wound down at 3:30am on Monday morning, a straight 17 hours! Empty Bones sounds simply awsome, even on the monitor mix. Joe will be making a few minor changes before doing the final mix.
