Biography
"But it was Four Tops all
night... With encores from
stage right, charging from
the bass knives to the treble"
The Clash - White Man In
Hammersmith Palais.
K... That's the name explained
then, no more shielding
questions about Krystoff
Kryslowski's film trilogy,
never was much of an arthouse
movie fan anyway... 3 Colours
Red is dead. Long live the
red. A MASSIVE "hvala" (some
Balkan gratitude for ya
there) for e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e
who made the final show
at Islington, as gigs go,
then I can say - hand on
heart - that it was, and
will always be, to my mind...
up there with the best shows
we did under the banner
of 3cr. (An extra 'big up'
to the boy they call Danny
McCormack for the rizla
wrapped 'bomb' that got
me onto the stage in the
first place... Shit, I couldn't
walk straight, let alone
talk before the gig... 2
hours sleep a morning tends
to catch up over a week
and a half of trying to
be heard over a backline
that must share a postcode
with Motorhead ...and we
won't even mention Cardiff,
"Mum's" the word, Dan!).
So... "What's the big idea?"
- with 'basskniv3s'...
Well, as a teenager, you
could find me down the pub
every Friday night drinking,
consulting with William
'Billy' Whizz and enjoying
what I enjoy the most...
music. That's 'rock' music
peeps, hard hitting drums
locking horns with a fuzz
bass, underpinning the guitars
and raising my glass when
the big 'f**k off' chorus
hit me - not unlike the
majority of my time spent
in the back of the tourbus
with the first 6 AC/DC albums
gaffer taped / jammed into
the CD revolver...
Why am I sitting here boring
you with my rock credentials?
Well, it constantly amuses
me when I have to read reviews
or articles that point my
contribution to 3cr as 'mellow',
or 'introspective' or any
of those other worn out
cliches that fall prey to
the myth that I am a 'balladeer'
or something... It can get
kind of sickening, I mean,
was any member of Black
Sabbath known as a ballad
writer because of "Changes"?
Same goes for Metallica
with "Nothing Else Matters"?
And for those of you who
aren't aware... there is
a song titled "Love Song"
which appeared on side 2
of the first e-v-e-r AC/DC
album (the Australian 'High
Voltage' on Albert records,
the front cover featuring
a dog pissing on a generator)
that finishes with Bon Scott
singing "Oh Jean" about
20 times...
Rant over.
...and, knives out!
